Top Ten Fashion Icons

Today while shopping my friend and I decided to write a list of the top ten fashion icons in the music industry. I'm sure it could be revised, but this is what we came up with.

10.Rihanna

Honestly, im starting the think i shouldn't have placed her so low. Now that i look at some of these pictures, my opinion is shifting. Perhaps next year she will climb the ranks of icon-hood.

9.Lil' Mama

Lil' Mama effected a side of fashion that is so often forgotten about. applause!

8.Christina Aguilera

A house-hold name for sure. With some awesome costumes.

7.Pink

I do love P!nk. Shes got a look, that everyone knows and recognizes. and her stage costumes are iconic.

6.Bill Kaulitz

I don't know if Bill got this high on the list because of his amazing fashion sense, or because I am extremely bias; that is definitely the reason he got the most face time.
But I firmly believe he is an icon, if anything just for his hair. It has gone from the 'hedgehog' look when he was young, to the 'lions mane' as seen in the picture above, to his dreadlocks, and current Mohawk.
Still, he would not have been listed here if not for his style.
I think it is safe to say that a Bill Kaulitz fashion line would be something to watch out for.

5.Gwen Stefani

How can we forget Gwen Stefani? Definitely an icon in her own right, and lets make sure to give her credit for starting her own fashion lines.

4.Katy Perry

Katy Perry has an awesome balance of crazy, bizarre and classy and sophisticated. Well, I didn't include a picture of the 'classy/sophisticated' part, but just look it up. I especially love the 'pin-up girl' look she pulls off, oh so well.

3.Lady Gaga

Who can deny Lady Gaga as a fashion icon? She wore Kermit** the frog. Cant get better than that. As well as the red lace ensemble. Not only was her face covered, and the lace, almost completely see-through, but check out the hair piece.
She is 'out-there' in the very best way possible.

2.Michael Jackson

An iconic look. Never a doubt.

1.Madonna

By unanimous vote, Madonna took the lead. Probably due to being an icon for so long. I must admit, I find a huge majority of what she wears a little scary. Never the less, definitely iconic.

But while I was looking for pictures i got a little...um...distracted.
So instead I am going to show you some amazing Betsey Johnson shoes I found during my procrastination.

and Voila!

Those would be my picnic shoes! They are beautiful, can't you imagine sitting under a gazebo with a frilly dress on, wearing these shoes? (yes, that is my version of a picnic)

SEXY SEXY SEXY! hehe
well, they are! Can't deny that!
I absolutely love the ribbon, perfect finishing touch!

These shoes remind me of Barbie, don't you love 'em?

And these will be my Valentines Day shoes. as well as my every other day shoes. HeHe

And last but not least.....

These shoes are better than life itself! especially the ones on the top left. I would take a bullet for those!

Amazing Prints (part 1)

Today I start my segment of "Amazing Prints" (whether or not there will ever be a part two is undecided)

Here is my first example, I found it in 'fashion' the november issue. I saw it and I fell in LOVE!

You guys dont know how much I want to wear this dress!

(although I must admit, it looks better on a model, than in this picture)

Anyways, check out this print, it starts as houndstooth then transforms into beautiful birds!

I imediattely though of this Escher drawing, whether that was the original intention or not is debatable.

See the resemblace? Amazing! I love it!

well, thats all for today!

Cannon Ball?

Well, I am here to re-start my poor, abandoned blog. i mean, its been just over a month since my last post!

luckily I found something I just needed to see to start the ball rolling! (again)

This beautiful dress from Viktor & Rolf spring collection from Paris fashion week.

Is that not amazing?
Of course this isn't the best picture, as you only see one of the "cannon ball" holes.

There are actually three, another midway down the left of the skirt, and one at the very bottom on the right.

though I'm wondering: how did they get it to keep perfect shape after cutting giant holes in it?

I'm sure there is some wiring or something, but still AMAZING!
not to mention how beautiful the gathering on the top is!

yup this is amazing! no doubt about it.

from now on, EVERYONE should fire cannon balls through their skirts...or not. :)

Day 22--Final Product

well, It's Day 22, tomorrow is the first day back.

After long days of research, I has finally come to my last post.

And I only missed what...10 posts? pretty good! huh? huh?

fine. be that way.

Anyways, I do believe I have come to a conclusion.

I was right in my first post. pink bubble dress and leather jacket are still the best combo.

until I remembered it's gonna be warm tomorrow. So scratch the leather jacket.

Now re-imagine.

Pink bubble dress on top of grey plaid skinny jeans and band t-shirt, with peter pan boots, and statement bangles.

Wow, I just summed up like 10 posts all in one outfit.

I LOVE this blog!

well, that is all for today, but I will be back to plan my winter wardrobe. thanks for tuning in!

Au Revoir!!

Day 15-- Print/Skinny Jeans

Today's topic is about a particular article of clothing which has plagued my dreams for weeks.

Print/Skinny Jeans.

I say both because, well, both terrify me.

I'm not saying they are ugly, on the contrary, I think they are BEAUTIFUL! magnificent!....if you are tall and thin, with no hips whatsoever.

Which as I have already pointed out, is not me. I have even tried on a few pairs of skinny jeans. Of course, Most of the time they wouldn't fit over my thighs.

And yet, with some help from my mom, I managed to haul a pair of dark purple plaid skinny jeans into the change room. I tried them on with a long smock style plaid blue top. And the result was amazing!

Not only did I look thinner, I even looked taller! And the top went past my hips, assuring the jeans didn't make them look huge.(which unfortunately they do without the smock top)

Needless to say I bought 2 pairs (in purple and grey) and am proudly wearing them right now.

Day 11/14--- Henna

Today's topic is Henna.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, Henna is a temporary tattoo, it lasts anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks. I could go into more detail, but it is nearly midnight, and I'm tired.

Anyways, I got a free henna done the other day, I figured its pretty, and it is harmless. After all, it disappears in 3 weeks.

Well, Henna isn't that harmless after all. Not if you have to get it off in a hurry.

It turns out i have 1 week for my tattoo to disappear.

And thanks to wiki how, yahoo answers and various other 'how to' websites. I am (hopefully) on my way to being Henna free!

Here are some techniques listed.

1-Soak the tattoo in salt water for 15 minutes, everyday until it bleaches off.

2- Go swimming everyday, the more chlorine the better.

3-Keep area well moisturized, it helps remove excess skin.

Sounds like good ideas.

And I'm sure they are, But I discovered a different way. Thank you to whoever randomly decided to try this out then post it online.

Toothpaste.

That's right, tooth paste can get rid of Henna.

So everyday since I got my tattoo, I have spent 15 minutes scrubbing toothpaste all over it.

And it works surprisingly well!

If you ignore that I am probably rubbing off the rest of the skin with it, and I will probably end up with a giant bruise.

Well, the price of Beauty!

The moral of the story, Always get tattoos in places where you can hide them. Just in case.

Day 8/10-- Prints

prints can be a terrifying thing.it is so easy to go from fashionable to tacky.

For example, you put the zebra print shrug over a purple leopard tunic with the black and white pin stripe suit pants and the amethyst pendant with metallic pumps and voila. You have a horrendous getup.*

That doesn't mean you should just stay clear of all prints. or even from mixing print.

Just follow these steps, and you will be strutting your stuff in beautiful polka dot zebra print dresses.(or not)

1- Mix big prints with small prints.
The bigger print should be where you want the eye to look. Just don't mix two big prints. That is just overkill.

2- Wear solid accessories
Adding a belt or jacket in a solid is a great way to separate the print.
Try not to let them blend together, prints are supposed to catch the eye, not be visually challenging.

Not feeling bold enough to mix to prints in the same outfit? add the extra prints in your accessories, like leopard print shoes and lace earring. It adds a pop to the outfit without being overpowering.

Multiple prints are one of my newest favourite looks.
Yesterday I pulled together an all print outfit for a party.
a pink polka dotted shrug on a solid black tank top. tucked into a blue plaid skirt. With a white small plaid scarf with a corduroy flower broach.

It may sound tacky, but trust me, it worked.

the moral of the story.

Prints are as harmless as a lion.....while it is sleeping.

Day 7-- Bangles

Day 7, This blogging is harder than I thought, I don't know if i can come up with enough trends to fill the next 16 days.

I guess we'll just have to see how this works out.

Today's topic, statement bangles.

Well you can't go wrong with accessories, and who doesn't need hundreds of beautiful bangles?

They match anything and everything (well, you know, with the right colours of course)

Of course I bought about a thousand bangles in the last two months; some thick neon pink and blue, and some thin classy bangles.

Enough to match with every outfit, for every occasion.

so go out, and buy a couple thousand of them, you can't go wrong.

Day 6- Ripped Jeans

Another trend which has been around for quite a while. Ripped Jeans.

Ever since the 1980's people everywhere have been ripping their jeans for fashion. Although it has gone a bit too far.

From small holes on the knees to, well, this.

Why bother wearing pants?

Although, I believe these jeans can look good if ripped nicely. Even these aren't quite so bad.

See? At least you can tell the person is wearing pants.

Of course I haven't mentioned the fact that these jeans are 'designer' jeans, and therefore cost over 100 dollars. For a pair of jeans.

If you are going to wear ripped jeans you might as well buy a pair from walmart and rip them your self!

Which is exactly what I would do...If ripped jeans weren't against my school dress code, and therefore a pointless investment.

I'll just have to stick to good old fashion hole-less jeans.

Day 5-- Lace

Lace.

Lace.Lace.Lace.

This trend has been around a while. And I love it!

What better way to balance off the leather than with some feminine lace.

Sure, it's not for everyone, but a little bit of lace can add a lot to an outfit. depending how you use it.

A vintage lace can add a bit of mystery. While some bright colours add a flirty flair.

For some awesome lace looks, you should check out Louis Vuittons collection, filled with lace masterpieces.
Like this.

Luckily i didn't have to shop past my own closet for amazing lace looks.
The result?
A feminine lace shirt paired with jeans and some statement bangles. It results in a very cute first day back outfit.

And anyone who isn't into looking super girly, check out these lace sneakers from pastrykicks.com, featured in seventeen magazine.

Pretty awesome.

Admit it.
Lace makes the world go round.

Day 4-- Boots

Today's topic of Discussion.

'Fashion' magazine's "Must Have" item for the past two months.

Thigh high boots.

Now think about it, these just don't seem very practical, or wearable. I mean, knee high shoes, maybe. But thigh high? It seems like a bit much.

And consider this, how many people can you really see wearing these. I mean besides people who are 5"9 and size two. Like me for example.

Because really, unless your legs are the length of the CN Tower it will take a good couple inches from your height.

Now I'm not trying to be mean.

So I went and tried some on.

The first pair were flats, similar to this.

Sure the shoe itself is cute, but it certainly doesn't add to my 5"1 height.

So I tried on a heel, kinda like this.

Sure I looked taller. I also looked like a um "working woman" (but not in the good way)
Which wasn't quite the look I was going for.

And even if I was, most of my skirts are knee length, therefore high boots just don't work to well.

The Moral of the story?

Thigh High boots just don't work, unless you are a model, or standing on a street corner.

Day 3--Plaid

I feel it necessary for today's blog to be about the biggest trend this season.

Plaid.

Yeah plaid, like what the lumberjacks wear, but on *real people. Like this.

Plaid has invaded the runways, everyone is trying to get their hands on it. From Marc by Marc Jacobs to Liz Claiborne.

Plaid is it.
And I am not exaggerating. It is everywhere.

Which is why I feel the need to write about it today.

Now don't get me wrong, i love plaid as much as the next person, but it is just so overdone! I couldn't turn one page in 'Teen Vogue' without seeing it. Couldn't walk through one store in the mall without being blinded by the overwhelming amount of red plaid shirts, dresses, and jeans.

Just the quantity of the print is terrifying. Take a good look at the models shown above.
Now try to tell me that it doesn't look like those models have been eaten by an angry lumberjack.

uh huh. That's what I thought.

Although I must say, plaid is one of those amazingly versatile prints. It works for every season, every event.

A bright blue plaid in summer is fun and playful. A red plaid in winter is cozy and warm.

But that is the problem. It is all red plaid. red. not blue, or yellow, or green.

It just seems so wintry. Like something you wear while sitting in front of the fireplace.

And hopefully I'm not alone in trying to postpone winter for as long as possible.

Which is why I will be sticking with my hot pink bubble dresses and leather peter pan boots for now.

Day 2-- Corduroy

Day two and I have already found my first "uh uh, not gonna happen" look.

Corduroy.

I discovered this little fad while reading "Seventeen", right between the tweed sweaters and feather jackets. This just shows that you can never trust a fashion magazine.

I mean really, Corduroy?

It is just one of those things that works great in theory, but not so much in the real world.

Sure, they may be warm but trust me, they 'swoosh' every time you move your legs, and they tend to make most people gain five pounds just by putting them on.
And worst of all, they lose their shape. Pretty soon your favourite pair of cord jeans will look like this.

Pretty bad. (And that is just the top half)

For everyone who goes out and buys everything they see in a magazine, think about this.
If a fashion magazine told you to rip out your intestines and tie them to your hair, would you?

Yes, corduroy is that bad.

In conclusion.

Corduroy belongs on a bear; and no where else.

Day 1-- Leather

Hello world.

Today is Day one of my 3 week journey through fashion.

My mission, find my perfect style for the fall season.
The deadline, the first day back to school.

The trick? Everything is inspired by my trusted fashion magazines. Elle, Teen Vogue, Fashion, and Seventeen.

So today, I will be investigating a recent fad. The leather jacket.

Yeah, that's right, anyone who has been reading these magazines must have seen the excessive amount of leather jackets right?

It was number four in Elle's 'Hit List'.
Teen Vogue's "Urban Chic Must Have"
It just goes with the whole "femme fetal" thing that invaded the fall runway.

Luckily I like this look. So I put it to the test.
I went out and bought myself a new leather....well pleather, jacket, for $30 from Stitches.

And I must say, I am thoroughly in love with it!

Now, try to imagine a harsh black leather biker jacket placed with a hot pink bubble dress. Pull up the sleeves, add a few bangles, and you got one sexy outfit.

And with that in mind, I went out and bought new shoes to match.

My father described them as "Peter Pan with a Motorcycle".
Translation: I get to be eternally young AND I have a motorcycle.

How can you go wrong?

So for all of you afraid of going out in a leather jacket and a cocktail dress, remember the lesson of the day.

Leather is your friend.
